Lots of updates to share 👇🏼👇🏼

There are definitely days like this where I do NOT have time to prep lunch - whether it’s a packed study day to get ready for Step 2, a short break on clinical rotations or just coming back from some in-between traveling. Luckily @knorr is there to save the day! #KnorrPartner

Their pasta cups (I tried the Teriyaki Noodles flavor) take just 3 minutes in the microwave and it kept me fueled so I had the energy to unpack and do a bunch of school tasks in the afternoon to get properly reorganized and quickly back into routine after being gone.
I can’t even begin to express how EXCITED I am that Step 2 is behind me!! My Post Step 2 Era feels long overdue and there is a of fun things to focus on in August. First, we have *another* trip to Wisconsin for our one year Anniversary. We have a lil place on the lake and it’s going to be so nice and relaxing. Then I can resume getting back into a new routine which includes lots of CrossFit, healthy eating, finding a preceptor for one of my new electives, and house projects! I have a CrossFit competition with two girls who are so dang fit, so I have a little over two months to get back on their level because my fitness surely took a hit during Step 2 dedicated 😅
Quick meal options like Knorr cups along with occasional meal prepping (& a husband that likes to cook 🥰) make it realistic for me to fit everything into my life - studying, work, traveling and just having fun! Since let’s face it, chips and candy for lunch aren’t cutting it if you want to perform at your best.

Mine included an undecided major until my sophomore year, 5 C’s, tons of doubt, 4 gap years, applying twice, having to retake the MCAT because my first score expired, gaining clinical experience as an EMT aaaaaand the list goes on! ⁣

Most importantly though, I didn’t give up (despite 5 C’s and ALL that doubt) and now I’m a fourth year medical student!! It still feels surreal to even say that 💕 so KEEP AT IT. ⁣

You don’t have to have perfect grades to get into medical school! I’m the perfect example ✨

Easily my favorite on the list is the podcast “All Access: Med School Admissions”

if you are applying next cycle I highly recommend just putting it on daily or a few times a week during your commute.

I know at this time your probably juggling SO much that learning about essay tips, details about the primary etc is the easiest thing to push off right now, learning these kind of things NOW and fitting that in however you can is going to help you SO much down the road!

The Fall before I applied is when I started REALLY diving into stuff like this so I could make a good plan, know all the right things to do and try to avoid making any mistakes because I just didn’t know something (like the first time I applied)

⤵️ 7-9 below + WHY each of these are important:

1. Watch examples on YouTube: if you don’t know what a good answer looks like, how could you come up with your own? This also helps decrease the intimidation of preparing for interviews

2. Brainstorming answers for common questions: top two are definitely “why do you want to be a doctor” and “tell me about yourself”

3. Video practice: the first two steps ease you into interview prep and now it’s time to bite the bullet. The first time you practice out loud WILL be cringe. Set a 5 minute timer and just answer one question. Then keep doing a little bit more each day.

4. Make a daily habit: interview prep is EASY to put off. I remember feeling burnt out the first time I applied after the MCAT, primaries, and all those secondary essays. Something I did different the second time was practicing a little bit every day.

5. Free mock interviews: now the next big step is to do this with another person! I promise you’ll feel more ready after a week or two of doing the previous steps. I did free one halfway into practicing on my own and one closer to my first interview.

6. Questions for the end of interviews: SO important! Most of my interviews ended with “well do you have any questions for me before we wrap up?” Not having any shows you aren’t that interested. One of my go-to’s: “what is something you feel like the school could improve upon and one thing they do really well?”

7. Remember to review your primary application and secondary essays for that school before each interview! You might get asked questions directly from them and you want to be able to easily remember what they are referring to.

8. Have a checklist of school specific things you do before every interview: research their curriculum, clubs, etc so you have a strong answer when they ask “why do you want to go here”. Double check the times. Know what type of interview it will be. All the little things that will make interview day less stressful!

9. Have thank you letters ready to send next day: you want to still be fresh in their mind when you send them!

~ you do NOT have to have perfect stats to get into medical school ~

a low GPA simply means you need a strong upward trend

a below average MCAT means you need to be stronger in other areas (like clinical experience and/or research)
