And you won’t realize it until you submit your secondary application and see it marked “not complete.” Missing the Casper score can delay your secondary application by weeks, which can also feel so disheartening after all that hard work!

What is the Casper Exam?

Casper is an online exam, which basically stands for Computer-based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics. It is designed as an assessment tool to evaluate your personal and also your interpersonal skills. Admissions committees want to know more about you than just your GPA. They’re also looking to see if you possess the judgment and critical thinking skills needed in a high-stakes environment. 

To emphasize, most medical schools rely on the Casper exam to measure how you would handle real-life situations in a medical setting. However, here’s the deal: whether you have to tackle the Casper test depends on the specific schools you’re applying to. Each program has its own requirements, so it’s a good idea to check out what the schools on your list are looking for.

The Ideal Time to Take the Casper Exam

If you’re on the verge of applying to medical schools, it’s best to take the Casper test sooner rather than later because your results won’t be released for about 2 to 3 weeks after your test. Keep in mind most schools won’t even consider you for an interview until they have your Casper score in hand. 

May is when the first test dates become available. So, around that time, set up your account, get everything verified, and snag the earliest test date you can manage. This way, by the time you’re sending out those secondary applications, you’ll have your scores ready to go! Basically, staying ahead of the game with your Casper test results will boost your chances of landing an interview.

However, know that your Casper score is only valid for the current application cycle. So, if you plan to apply next year or later and opt to take the test now, you’ll only wind up redoing it. 

What To Do If You Need to Reschedule the Casper Exam

It’s important to realize that fife happens, and you may need to change your Casper test date. No worries, you can reschedule any time, but keep in mind that if you do it within 30 days of your original date, there’s a small fee of $20.

Pro tip: Before committing to rescheduling, first, check to see if the other slots available work with your application timeline so you don’t create unnecessary delays.

So here’s how to reschedule the Casper Exam.

1. Firstly, log into your account on Acuity Insights.
2. Go to the “Reservations” page afterwards.
3. Thirdly, click on “Reschedule.”
4. Then, pick a new date that works better for you (if available).

Test Dates Depend on the Schools You Apply To

Each medical school has its own deadlines for when you need to submit your scores. But just like with everything else in your medical school application, you really shouldn’t wait until the last minute to take the exam!

To emphasize, make sure you check the guidelines for each school you’re applying to. Some might require Casper for your primary application, while others will ask for it later during the secondary application phase. Since medical schools often review applications on a rolling basis, make sure you submit everything, including Casper, as early as possible.

Casper Exam Dates for all Medical Schools

Firstly, I just wan to provide a heads up: the Casper test dates aren’t one-size-fits-all. To emphasize, each medical and health professional school sets its own schedule for the Casper exam. So it’s super important to check the specific dates for every school you’re applying to. With this in mind, make sure you’re on top of those requirements to keep your application on track!

Most medical schools have test dates from May till October, with some exceptions who also offer later Casper exam dates up until March.

Re-Taking the Casper Exam

First of all, you can only take the Casper test once per application cycle. So if you’re feeling a bit bummed about how you did, unfortunately, you can’t just retake it whenever you want. Once you’ve completed the test for a specific year’s application, that’s it. Basically, no do-overs for that cycle!

Now, if you’re planning to reapply to medical school next year, you’ll need to take the Casper again regardless. Then, you’ll get a new life for showcasing your skills and personality. 

What’s Duet and How Does It Relate to the Casper Test?

While Casper is super important in the Acuity Insights game, depending on the medical school you’re eyeing, you might also need to tackle a Duet assessment.

So, what exactly is Duet? You could basically think of it as a sidekick to the Casper test. It assesses your values as well as your preferences based on 100 multiple-choice questions. This assessment is untimed, so you can take your time to think things through, although most students zip through it in about 15 minutes.

Just like with Casper, medical schools also use Duet to determine if you and their mission vibe well together. Basically, an admission committee will request your Duet score to get a clearer picture of who you are as a prospective student and what you’re looking for in a medical school. Additionally, it gives you a chance to reflect on your own values and what matters to you.

How to Schedule Your Casper Exam

This simple step-by-step list will surely help you lock in your preferred test date. Before you begin, remember that it’s wise to book early. Register three days before your desired test date to allow time for identity verification and payment processing. Also, conduct a time zone check. All test times are usually in EDT/EST, so don’t forget to adjust for your time zone to avoid surprises!

1. Firstly, start by setting up your Acuity Insights account. You’ll need this later to reserve your test.
2. Once logged in, go to the homepage and click on the “+ Reserve new test” option. 
3. After that, select the country where the program(s) you are applying to are located.
4. If applicable, change the settings from English to the language you want to use for the test.
5. Specify the admission cycle for your program(s).
6. Afterwards, select the type(s) of program you’re applying for.
7. At this point, you have to choose the school(s) you’re applying to. You can add more later if needed!
8. This time, if prompted, type in your application/student ID number(s) in the provided fields.
9. Without delay, mark the date on the screen that works best for you.
10. Review your details and also double-check your test reservation details to avoid any mix-ups.
11. Enter your payment information to secure your spot.
12. Review everything one last time, prior to confirming and and submitting your payment.

Now that you’re equipped with all the nitty gritty details of when to take the exam, plus how to be prepared if issues arise, let’s double-check you’re all set for success as you put together your medical school application.

• First, schedule the Casper exam before you forget about it! With this year’s Casper exam dates officially available, now is the perfect time to mark them on your calendar so you’re not panicking at the last minute.
• Second, you can only take the Casper test once per admissions cycle, so plan to prep for it. While the Casper exam can’t quite compare to the MCAT, it still deserves your attention and dedicated study time.
