Honestly? I’m a BIG believer in prioritizing the

Honestly? I’m a BIG believer in prioritizing the MCAT above all else.⁣
⁣
📚 The first time I took the MCAT, I didn’t even attempt to start studying while I still had classes.

I’m an “all in” type of person, but I like to be all in on ONE thing at a time. I knew that trying to study for the MCAT and juggle a full load of classes and my equestrian team commitments was setting myself up for a score less than I was capable of.
⁣
I’m not saying it’s impossible, there’s obviously people who have done it but I knew myself well enough to know I wasn’t going to be one of them.⁣ 🤷🏽‍♀️
⁣
So at the time I didn’t work all summer, but the second time I had to juggle working as an EMT. So, if you don’t have the option to remove ALL commitments, then here’s what I suggest you do: ⁣
⁣
➊ Take an audit of your commitments and see what you can cut out or reduce ⁣
⁣
→ I planned my study schedule 3 months in advance and planned the days I would take off or call out for so I could have more study days and less work days ⁣
⁣
➋ Plan out your complete & DETAILED study schedule ⁣
⁣
→ What days will you study, when will you start, when will you end, WHAT will you study, when will your off days be, when will you take full length exams, plan it ALL (but know it’s OK to change down the road. This is just a starting point and you can reassess along the way) ⁣
⁣
➋ After the first 3 weeks MAX sit down and assess how well you were able to stick to your study schedule ⁣
⁣
→ Right on schedule? Great! Keep doing what you’re doing. ⁣
⁣
→ Do you feel slightly behind and just need to make small tweaks? Make those minor tweaks.⁣
⁣
→ Are you VERY behind and need to make major changes? It happens. Start back at ➊ and make a new plan.
⁣
📌 This may involve pushing back your test date, reassessing your commitments and cutting more out...

(It’s temporary sacrifices & worth it even if it makes you broke... you deserve the chance to reach your FULL potential on this test!)

...or it may mean just changing WHEN you study so you can focus better. ⁣

A huge factor that helped me be successful (both times I took it) was 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 sticking to a routine from DAY ONE.

I think it is SO important. I get messages all the time about not having the motivation to study and pushing back a test date multiple times.

99% of med schools require the MCAT so I would first question if being a doctor is what you really want because there are going to be more “MCATs” in med school. And more in residency!

So once you have the *mindset* to commit to and stick to a routine...

I LOVE starting promptly at 8 AM everyday since that was the same time that my real test would be. Therefore, I got to train my brain for MONTHS that 8 AM meant “focus time”.

Obviously, there are a lot of things you may have to work around to find your ideal study times - so decide on a realistic routine based on your commitments. I personally had zero commitments the first time I studied and the second time I was working full time as an EMT but I called out ALL the time so I could focus on studying.

If I had a job that wouldn’t have let me call out all the time like that? I would have quit, no question. And it would have been the easiest decision I made in my life lol.

If you want to get into med school then the MCAT is a necessary hurdle and you should PRIORITIZE it!
