now let’s dive into these ↓

➊ I had a solid routine that I followed religiously (8am - 4pm ish on days I didn’t work)

➋ I tracked my progress with plenty of full-length exams & made adjustments as needed (took a total of 13!)

➌ I always pushed back my test date if I didn’t feel ready, I thought of my first date as a “tentative date” that I would re-evaluate after I had some studying & practice tests under my belt

➍ I took 13 full-length exams & spread them out so I could fully review every question + have at least 3 full study days before the next

➎ I made flashcards based on the concepts I kept missing + was extra picky about what I’d make a flashcard for

➏ I didn’t skip content review. It’s boring I know, but I went through Every. Single. Chapter. before moving on to passage-based practice

➐ Tons of passage-based practice with Uworld! This helped a ton with timing too!

➑ After phase 1 I ALWAYS timed myself when doing practice questions and full length practice tests

➒ Simulated test day every time I took practice exams! Started at the same time, only took scheduled breaks & a month out I even ate the same thing as I planned for test day!

➓ Drove to my testing center the day before my exam, packed my lunch, ID, etc., and made sure all I had to do that morning was wake up & go!

each of these steps helped me raise my MCAT score by 18 points over 5 months!

My advice? Don’t waste your money applying to me

My advice? Don’t waste your money applying to med schools you have very slim chances at due to residency bias!

To get you up to speed...

Residency bias is when schools are favoring in-state applicants over out-of-state applicants - the degree can vary greatly from school to school (strong bias vs. welcoming out-of-state applicants with open arms)

As an example, the first time I applied I had NO clue that residency bias even existed

So I applied to a public school in Alabama and actually had zero chance because not only did they have major residency bias...but they required a 3.5 GPA for out of state applicants and back then I had a 3.1 🫠

Honestly, applying to med school is expensive enough! No need to waste it on such mistakes.

Soooo let’s put it to the test!

So much so that I really want to experiment going sans Anki in med school 🧐 but that is TBD haha ⁣

If had made flash cards on every single detail then I wouldn’t have had time to do so many practice questions because I would have had too many flashcards to get through!! ⁣

So making flashcards for just concepts that 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 weren’t sticking was the 🔑 for me ⁣

Also by writing out pathways!
