If you’re a pre-med student without hands-on clinical experience, the best action you can take right now is to enroll in an online certification course, such as Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA Certification).
Because, let’s face it, tracking down clinical experiences, especially paid clinical work, isn’t the easiest to accomplish. Plus, most healthcare jobs require a certification first before they hire you, and that can take 6 to 18 months. You simply don’t have time for that!
So, if you’re a pre-med student wishing you could get paid hands-on clinical experience, what can you do?
Fortunately, Advanced eClinical Training offers self-paced, online certification courses, including Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA). And they have actually been voted #1 by Forbes Education. It’s exactly what I would do if I had to prepare for medical school from scratch!
I’ll explain why investing in this type of course is totally worth it, how to earn the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification and become a medical assistant, and the other certification programs you can choose from. Plus, a special offer for you, only valid until January 1, 2025.
This post is all about CCMA certification.
This blog post is kindly sponsored by Advanced eClinical Training.
The #1 CCMA Health Certification for PreMeds
How Can Earning a CCMA Certification Help Boost Your Medical School Application?
Clinical experience is such a solid indicator to admission committees of your commitment to the medical field. When I wasn’t accepted the first time I applied to medical school, I knew the best way to strengthen my application was to gain hands-on clinical experience.
I started working as an EMT, which helped me understand the realities of patient care and gain the valuable skills I now use every day as a medical student. I’m also convinced that this clinical experience was one of the biggest factors in my earning ten medical school acceptances the second time I applied, despite my 3.3 GPA.
So, if you’re considering completing an Advanced eClinical Training and earning your CCMA Certification, here are the top benefits you can expect once you’re on the job as a Medical Assistant.
- Experience working with various team members, such as nurses, PAs, NPs, doctors, and social workers
- Opportunity to broaden your understanding of what a career as a physician entails
- The ability to draw from this clinical experience to create a stronger “WHY medicine” for your personal statement and content for stories to share in interviews
- A chance to significantly improve your application so you’re more likely to get interviews and acceptances (it’s one factor of many, but it’s a BIG factor)
ACT Certification Opportunities for Pre-Med Students
Pre-meds can choose from three worthwhile school certificates. You could snag a Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA), a Patient Care Technician Certification (CPCT), or a Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT). Each of these credentials looks impressive on your medical school application. Plus, instead of just volunteering and hoping for the best, you could actually get paid while gaining hands-on clinical experience. How cool is that?
Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA)
A Medical Assistant Certification is a smart move! It opens doors to countless clinical settings, whether you’re drawn to dermatology, cardiology, or family medicine. With practical training that covers everything from vital signs to patient communication, you’ll improve your skills and strengthen your medical school application by showcasing your commitment to patient care. If I had to start over, this would have been my top pick as a premed!
Click here to read about the real-life experience from Ally, a premed student who went through ACT’s Medical Assistant Certification.
Patient Care Technician Certification (CPCT)
The Patient Care certification gives you hands-on experience working directly with patients, gaining valuable clinical skills, and learning the ins and outs of the healthcare system alongside nurses and doctors. With tasks including vital sign monitoring and catheter care, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference and build your future in medicine. And the certification also covers medical terminology and anatomy, so you’ll be well-prepared.
Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT)
In this role, you’ll gain valuable clinical exposure across various specialties by taking blood samples and working closely with patients. Since blood tests contribute to diagnosing patients, you’ll play a vital role on the healthcare team. This experience allows you to grow your skills regarding infection control and venipuncture. Getting certified as a Phlebotomny Tech also shows admissions committees just how committed you are to medicine.
Did you know that Advanced eClinical Training has been voted #1 Online Medical Assistant Course by Forbes Education? And trust Ally on this (an ACT alumni), the investment is worth it!
“While the upfront cost is a lot, I was able to make it back in just one month of being an MA. I now have a full-time job that I love, and I will receive many letters of recommendation from doctors I work with for medical school. Plus, I am able to make a good wage, so I can save for all the costs of medical school!”

CCMA Alumni at ACTThe Curriculum for CCMA
If you’re considering Advanced eClinical Training and the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification, you might wonder what the course includes.
The CCMA program includes modules packed with various materials that cater to different learning styles. You’ll find videos that visually guide you through complex concepts, PowerPoints that highlight key points, and written lectures that dive deep into the subject matter.
Here’s the exact breakdown of the curriculum.
The CCMA course is broken up into 15 modules, listed below:
- Intro to Clinical Medicine- anatomy, pathophysiology, medical terminology (all very basic knowledge for a premed)
- HIPPA & Patient Privacy
- Infection Control & PPE
- Pharmacology & Medication Management- the pharmacology information is very similar to what you would have learned in premed classes (this is not like a pharmacology chemistry course)
- Patient Communication
- Exams & Procedures
- Vital Signs
- Lab Procedures
- Administering Injections
- Surgical Procedures
- Nursing Home & Hospital Settings
- EKG Training
- BLS Training
- Course Review
- Course Wrap Up & Final Exam
As you work your way through the modules, you’ll encounter assignments and quizzes that serve as mini-checkpoints to see how well you’re absorbing the material. You’re required to complete all the assignments in a module before moving on so you have a solid understanding of each topic before progressing. This structure mirrors the format of an online college course.
The assignments keep you active and engaged, ranging from writing about a specific test or diagnosis to online simulations that mimic real-world scenarios. You’ll also tackle assignments through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and discussion assignments encouraging interaction with your peers about their insights and experiences.
How Can Advanced eClinical Training Help You Earn a CCMA Certification?
This quick, flexible, affordable solution helps you gain hands-on clinical experience to show schools you have valuable clinical competencies. The experience you’ll likely gain as a result can demonstrate to admissions committees your strong commitment to patient care and help you present yourself as a well-rounded applicant.
Here’s exactly how ACT can help you earn a CCMA Certification to help you level up.
- The massive flexibility of a 100% online program. The self-paced courses allow you to study anytime, anywhere. It’s perfect for juggling classes and other commitments as you prepare for medical school.
- The immersive, hands-on experience you usually only see with in-person programs.
- Training includes patient simulations to practice communication, gathering medical histories, addressing their concerns, and more.
- Get experience with real-life scenarios. Virtually practice taking vital signs, administering injections, assisting with in-office/ surgical procedures, CPR, handling laboratory specimens, and other situations.
- Become certified in as little as 8-12 weeks!
- When you register, you get instant access to all course materials. No long waits or unnecessary entry requirements like test scores or recommendation letters.
- 100% of ACT graduates pass their certification exam on the first try
- ACT’s nationally recognized certifications are in demand, which is why they guarantee you a job within six months of certification or your money back.
- Although the initial investment can be quite high, their programs offer interest-free payment plans to accommodate smaller budgets.
If you are ready to take action, use the coupon code “CLINICAL300” to get an incredible $300 off your certification program with ACT (only until January 1, 2025).
FAQs About Advanced eClinical Training
If you’re still unsure if taking on the CCMA Certification Course from Advanced eClinical Training is the best choice for you, here are a few answers to commonly asked questions students often have with this program.
Is Advanced eClinical Training legit?
It might sound “too good to be true,” but yes, ACT is 100% legit and a high-quality, professional choice for your certifications.
I have been collaborating with ACT for many years now because I LOVE what they offer for busy premeds – who don’t want to invest many months to get certified or simply can’t find in-person training nearby.
Can Canadian students also enroll in Advanced eClinical Training?
Absolutely! Canadian and other international medical students can enroll as well and know that their ACT certification will also be valid for working in clinics and hospitals in Canada.
Is Advanced eClinical Training accredited?
Yes, their clinical training program is approved through the National HealthCareer Association (NHA). Once you’ve completed their training course, you get to take their national certification exam and afterwards hold an accredited certification.
Do you have a coupon code?
Yes! You can get $300 off with the code “CLINICAL300” to make this even easier on your premed budget. Keep in mind that ACT also has payment plans available (without any interest!).
Final Thoughts on Getting a CCMA Certification
Shadowing and volunteering in the healthcare field have their place in being helpful on your medical school application. However, earning a CCMA certification and gaining hands-on clinical experience as a Medical Assistant (or in any of the offered certification fields) is WAY more valuable toward making your medical application more competitive than simply passively shadowing or having limited tasks as a volunteer.
So, why wait? Follow this step-by-step plan! (This is exactly what I would do if I had to prepare for medical school all over again.)
- Enroll in the Advanced eClinical Online Medical Assistant Course.
- Start immediately with their nationally recognized and accredited online program
- Get certified in as little as 6 to 8 weeks (or longer, as it is completely self-paced)
- Sign up for a hands-on 6-week training externship for added confidence in the field.
- Use their career support to easily get a job and start gaining clinical hours right away!
It’s worth your time and investment to enroll and get certified so you can strengthen your medical school application in one of the best ways possible!

This is such a great giveaway!!! I already work at a clinic and do MA stuff as a scribe, but am only certified within the company (because they got rid of the MA position due to the company not being able to afford them, and changed the scribe position to encompass both positions 🫢). This could give me the official credentials for the work I do, outside the company 🥹

Being a student and wanting clinical experience is difficult, especially in rural areas where employers are likely to hire a candidate with MA credentials over a pre-med student with zero experience. The fact that certification courses are so expensive doesn’t help either. This giveaway would be nice to win so I could save money, get the certification for free, and easily land an MA job. I’d be so grateful to win this course! Thanks, Maggie, for giving us an amazing opportunity!

Maggie this is so awesome! This would be such an amazing gift and opportunity. Clinical experience is all I need left to apply to med school this upcoming cycle , and it’s been so hard to gain any hands on experience especially after COVID.

Patient care experience is the only category I am lacking in for applying to medical school. I have been trying to find something for 2 years but it has been extremely difficult to find something that is in my price range. This course would be immensely helpful for my pre-med journey and I would be so grateful if I was chosen. Thank you for all you have been doing to help all of us premeds. I have joined some of your mini road to acceptance lessons and found them so helpful.
Kyndall says

What an incredible opportunity! As a recent graduate, I’ve been working towards becoming a more competitive applicant. Working a 9-5, studying for the MCAT and saving up for the upcoming application cycle has been tough. Being a certified MA would ease my ability to get a clinical job that can help with getting experience in a field I desire.
Afrah says
Thank you so much for sharing these amazing resources with us! Definitely looking into the MA program 🙂
Lilly says
I graduate undergrad in the spring, and would love to work as an CMA in my two gap years. NC requires a certification, but I haven’t been able to invest in the course due to cost. This would be the perfect opportunity!
Paola Olivares says
I’ve been an unlicensed Patient Care Tech at a local ER for a few years. This training would allow me to increase my knowledge as well as be able to work in clinics. This training is great because it still allows an individual to work while in school! 🏫
Katelyn Miller says
I have been trying to decide between MA and CNA certification. This program would be amazing, the price is just a very large factor in choosing the MA route. What a great opportunity it would be.

This post is super helpful especially with all the options there are for undergrads now, it can be really overwhelming but this is super streamlined and I felt like I was actually able to understand my next steps after graduation and into my gap year. It seems more attainable to actually motivating to get into the field before I can become a doctor!

Wow this is such an amazing opportunity! I’ve been wishing to work in the OB/GYN specialty as a premed for SO long, but almost all of the jobs available in NC requires MA certification, which is very expensive and the class time always conflicts with my postbac courses. This would be such a blessing to any premed that ends up receiving it. Thank you! Also, good luck to everyone participating ☺️

This was so informative thank you so much. I am an international student and it has been really hard for me to get any form of experience with clinical hours and now it’s even harder to find jobs in a medical setting because they all require some form of certification. I just graduated college now and I’ve been looking to get my MA certification. This is really an amazing opportunity!

Jaden P says
This is such an incredible and thoughtful giveaway gift, especially for low-SES premeds! I actually previously looked into this training, but I was unable to swing the cost.
In order to become an MA in California, certification is required for most positions so it’s VERY tough to find jobs here without one. I also searched for MA programs at my local community colleges but they were incompatible with my demanding schedule as a postbacc student. The training being 100% remote, self-paced and short term is perfect for me as I finish up my final semester in my postbacc program. I’ll soon be beginning my job search to help sustain me during this upcoming application cycle so this quite literally could not have come at a more perfect time!

I have been looking at Advanced eClinical’s medical assistant program for a while now, and I love the program so much, but I have been hesitant to pursue it due to the cost. However, this would be the perfect opportunity for me to become certified so I can gain meaningful clinical experience in undergrad. I have just been accepted to college on the pre-med track, and would love to pursue this program so I can sit for the exam right after I graduate high school in May. Because of the program’s flexibility, I would still be able to balance my coursework while I am working towards my certification. Thank you so much Maggie for this incredible opportunity!!
Zoe says
