Saying there’s a lot to remember when you’re studying anatomy is an understatement! So, it’s all about finding effective memorization techniques, such as mnemonics and chunking information, that can make such a difference. So, lean into those memory aids.
For instance, creating fun phrases or acronyms can make recalling cranial nerves way less overwhelming. If you can stick it in your brain in a catchy way, it’s much easier to pull out during exams. The image below shows how I used “chunking” to help with memorization.
Use Visuals to Understand Physiology Concepts
With physiology, I recommend taking a different approach. Here, the key is understanding concepts rather than rote memorization. So, grab your colored pencils or markers and start drawing!
For example, illustrate the pathways for fat metabolism through the liver. Show how food travels through the systems, signaling fullness and the release of bile. Visuals like these help make the intricate processes more relatable and easier to digest (pun intended).

Record Lectures
I can’t stress this enough: recording your lectures is a total game-changer! If your school doesn’t already record them, you can use your iPad and apps like GoodNotes or Notability to record them. This way, when you need to review, you can simply play back the sections of the lecture that matter most to you. It saves so much time hunting through the school’s website.
